Beautiful Bride Nicky says of the couple and their day….

Myself and Hayley have an amazing story of love and determination.

We developed a relationship of friendship and incredible connection over two years.

It was like we should have always been together and made big changes to our lives to make it happen.

Both myself and Hayley hadn’t come out as gay/ bisexual and had had partners of the opposite sex our whole lives.

At 37 years old we both decided that it was who we truly were and went through some hard times and difficult decisions to get to where we are today.

I adjusted to being co-mum to four children and also working through the challenge of having Hayley as my boss.

We now live in Rudgwick, West Sussex with the kids and we are incredibly happy and lucky, and are loving married life together.

How did you meet?

We met through work.

We had been working together for two years and had something special from day one.

It started as a friendship and then developed into more.

From the beginning I felt so inspired by her , she was one of those people you meet and can’t get out of your head.

It helped that she is incredibly gorgeous to look t as well a gorgeous personality.

I made my move and the rest was history as they say.

Tell us about the Engagement…

Hayley surprised me to a trip away.

She had spoken to the deputies at work ( I manage the nursery ) and got them to sort out cover so that I could go away for a few days.

She didn’t tell me until the night before we went away that we were going to Barcelona!! I was so excited!

We stayed in a five-star hotel with great food and amazing views.

On the first night we arrived she had arranged for roses to be put in the room with some champagne.

She asked me to walk in first and I was blown away by the room and the lovely gesture.

We then went for a walk around the hotel and had a drink on the roof top at the bar.

When we got back to the room we started to get ready to go out, Hayley shut the door to the main room which I thought was odd but just carried on getting ready in the bathroom.

She then called me to come in and started playing our song ‘At Last’ by Etta James and at that point I knew and got goose bumps and a lovely feeling in my tummy.

She came and took my hand and then got down on one knee and said some gorgeous words about us being meant for each other and how much she adored me.

I obviously said yes with no hesitation at all.

Tell us about your wedding planning journey…

Hayley took on most of the planning but ran everything by me first.

We had the same idea from day one, that we both wanted a laid-back festival party.

Bartholomew Barn was the first venue that we saw. We both loved it and booked it the same day as we had visited it.

Our vision was completely D.I.Y and all our own ideas. It was quite stressful but worth it for the end result.

We got frustrated through the process as running an 80 place nursery, doesn’t leave you with much time for wedding planning but we got through it and I helped as best I could. It was fun, choosing the food and looking up ideas.

We found a lot of our suppliers through Facebook and recommendations from family and friends. Hayley did lots of research with the food too.

What was the best bit of your day?

The very best bit of my day was seeing H for the first time in her dress, waiting for me at the end of the aisle.

Were there any surprises on the day?

Hayleys son Rocco, sang ‘Stand by Me’ as a surprise accompanied by Hayley’s cousin on guitar and it was wonderful.

Tell me about the speeches…

We had speeches from my Mum ( who gave me away ) , Hayleys Dad, Hayley and then our brothers did a best man speech together, which was extremely funny and a tad embarrassing.

They wore t-shirts that said ‘Nevermind the Busscocks!’ As my family name was Buss and Hayleys Peacock.

What advice would you give to other couples getting married?

Make sure you cherish every second as it goes so quickly.

Spend time experiencing things such as food, drink and games as for me I hardly ate anything nor played splat the rat or tug of war which was annoying!

If you knew then what you know now, what would you have splashed out more on?

Nothing! It was perfect. I know people say that but for us its true, we wouldn’t change anything at all.
