Canary Isle Dreams – A Destination Wedding in Lanzarote – Images by Kirsty Whitaker Photography

Today I have great pleasure in sharing a beautiful Destination Wedding  shot by Kirsty Whitaker Photography in Lanzarote. Yesterday I was delighted to share Linzi and Des’s Engagement Shoot and I am excited to follow their story through.

Linzi, the lovely Bride shares her love story,

How did you  and Des meet?

“We met 4 years ago in Lanzarote.  I was doing some work at the apartment complex where my mum manages when Des rang to make a reservation for some of his diving clients.”

“He offered to make me a cup of tea and things developed from there.”

Tell us about the Engagement

“We got engaged on 9th April 2011 at the Amura Restaurant in Puerto Calero, Lanzarote (the venue of our wedding).”

“I had just come back from a work trip when mentioned he wanted to take me out for dinner that following weekend. He wouldn´t tell me where we were going, just to make sure I was ready for 7pm that evening.”

“I was ready for 7pm and he walked out of our bedroom in a brand new suit. This was the first time that I had ever seen Des in a suit as I was used to seeing him in casual clothes being a diving instructor. Anyway we arrived in Puerto Calero, I´m still none the wiser!”

“We parked the car and walked past many restaurants (every time thinking it would be the one we would dine in) until we arrived at the steps of the Amura.”

“After being told to wait a couple of minutes, we were lead to a private room with red rose petals scattered on the table, champagne on ice and a bouquet of red roses. After a lovely meal, Des then got down on one knee and proposed with me instantly saying yes.”

Talk us through your Planning journey.

“Due working long hours and the difficulty with the completion of wedding paperwork here in Lanzarote, I enlisted the help of Lanzarote Weddings. As one of the best wedding planning companies in Lanzarote, I knew from their fantastic reputation and excellent credentials that they wouldn´t disappoint.”

“The service from start to finish was exceptional, always putting my mind at ease throughout the process. First of all setting a date was important due to many of our family members being overseas.”

“Once this was finalised we then looked at the venue for our wedding and this to be honest was always going to the Amura Restaurant where we got engaged. We did look at alternative venues but in our hearts it was only going to be in Puerto Calero at the stunning marina.”

“I found my wedding dress within 6 weeks of getting engaged when my Mum and I went to Las Palmas in Gran Canaria. From a visit to a couple of wedding dress shops, I knew straightaway that I would find my dress in Pronovias. Their exquisite dress collections, quality gowns and fabulous service helped me find the dress of my dreams.”

“Since I was a little girl I loved shoes and as I entered my twenties watching Sex and the City I knew that there would be only one shoe designer I would choose and that was Jimmy Choo.”

I didn’t however want a standard ivory satin pair, so chose a lovely pair in Champagne that I could wear again after my wedding day and also treasure forever.”

“The bridesmaid dresses and men´s suits were all ordered in the UK. As my bridesmaids and the groomsmen were based in the UK it made sense to choose these upon a trip we both made to England.”

Jon Pauls Menswear in Lichfield were very accommodating with our wedding being overseas and stepped that extra mile to ensure that all suits were ready for the first flights out to Lanzarote. They were not only flexible on timeframe of the suit hire, but the quality of the suits and prices were all exceptional.”

“From not having many wedding suppliers in Lanzarote, this was all done via the internet and very much taking risks. From the wedding favours to my Jenny Packham headpiece, this was all ordered and paid for online and thankfully most of which went to plan.”

“Suzannah in particular from Elegant Wedding Creations was so helpful and ensured that the headpiece arrived within enough time before the flight overseas. The company was also very flexible and I would thoroughly recommend them to any future bride.”

“There were many dramas along the way, mainly with bridesmaid shoes being damaged or not arriving on time. A week before the wedding my maid of honour was collecting the third pair of shoes after no success previously! She also happened to find out that she was expecting three months before the wedding therefore as the bridesmaid dress didn´t fit, we had to find another within weeks before the wedding.”

“The wedding company organised many of the important aspects of the wedding, including the flowers, cake and videography. I did however approach Kirsty Whitaker to do my wedding photography from seeing her work on a previous trip to the UK.”

“From knowing Kirsty for many years, I felt that she was the perfect choice. Not only because she knew me well as a person, but also due to her creativity, professionalism but above all her enthusiasm. The wedding photography planning before the wedding was not only thorough but she came up with so many ideas, all that were so unique and above all catered to our requirements.”

“We both felt that Kirsty was able to produce the necessary family wedding shots yet also step aside from the conventional shots we are all so used to seeing. Through her careful shot selection, perfect planning and passionate love of photography, we were presented with breathtaking photos that we will forever be able to look back on.”
