Today I am thrilled to share the sunny Pennsylvania Castle Wedding Blessing of Oliver and Margisel captured beautifully by Linus Moran.
He delivers a mix of reportage & contemporary portraiture, reflecting his influences and past career of working for over 15 years for Fleet Streets finest titles.
Pennsyslvania Castle has an amazing history in that it was constructed by John Penn, the grandson of William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania USA in 1797 after King George III gave him the land that it now occupies.
He appointed architect James Wyatt, who had designed a number of churches and buildings around England and was well-known for his ‘neo gothic’ style.
The Penn was opened by Princess Elizabeth, daughter of King George III, in 1800 and since then has had a rich and varied history that takes in Royal celebrations (the King and Queen visited in 1800 and enjoyed their wedding anniversary there), the Napoleonic Wars, preparations for the D Day landings, and literary figures such as Thomas Hardy.
It became a hotel in the 1950’s.
Linus says of the couples Big Day ” I had a lovely day at unique luxurious setting of Pennsylvania Castle overlooking the Dorset coastline.”
“Along with glorious weather it was reminiscent of a faraway exotic destination Wedding.”
“The couple had decided to marry earlier in the week in London in front of close family but wanted their time at Pennsylvania Castle to be relaxed for themselves as well as their guests.”
A personal family friend conducted the Blessing, and brought together the ceremony with a mix of english and spanish readings to reflect the Brides Venezualan heritage.
“These readings were made by both Bride and Grooms families, before some relaxed portraits and Wedding Breakfast.”
I hand over to the beautiful Bride to tell how she and her Groom fell in love,
How did you meet?
“We lived together at University and started dating in our final term. I was a year above so left that year, but we have been together ever since.”
When and how did you get engaged?
“Oliver proposed on 21 August 2012 so 1 year and 10 days before our wedding.”
“He proposed in a hammock on a tropical island off the coast of Brazil, on the penultimate evening of their trip.”
“It was a huge surprise, as he’d managed to carry the ring around all holiday without revealing his intention until the key moment.”
Tell me about your Planning journey.
“With our planning we started with the venue.”
“We liked the idea of choosing avenue which had a backdrop of the sea, so researched places that fit this mandate.”
“We instantly fell in love with Pennsylvania Castle from its website, and that impression was reinforced when we visited in late September 2012.”
“We reserved the venue that day, even though it was the first place we’d seen, and are very pleased we did.”
“After the venue, we started arranging the bigger items: catering, Margisel’s dress and the photographer were all in place by Feb 2013, and we booked the band a couple of months after that.”
“Everything else then slotted into place.”
“We didn’t really have an overriding theme until very close to the end, though our favourite colours of blue and yellow were pivotal to the finishing touches and getting everything to come together.”
“In the end, everything fitted together perfectly, which surprised us as we didn’t feel like it had been planned cohesively.”
“Looking back, we suppose the key thing was considering every purchasing decision carefully and only making choices that we loved.”
“This also meant taking some risks, such as the sunglasses, cake topper and the buckets for centrepieces, but we think it all paid off.”
When was your Wedding Date?
“Our Wedding day was the August 31st, 2013, a glorious sunny day.”
“It was amazing from beginning to end and we have so many thanks to offer to all parties who helped us before and on the day. it was everything we wanted.”
Thank you so much to Linus for allowing me to share this stunning Pennsyvania Castle Wedding.
What an incredible setting and just how beautifully does the couples seaside theme flow. I love the colour pop of the yellow and the blending of all the blue in the Bridesmiads gowns reflecting the differing colours of the ocean.
And you can’t help but smile yourself when you see the Bride and Grooms joy radiating from every image….Just stunning.
