Breathtaking spring wedding ideas with a touch of Dutch flair and Delft Blue

As we approach change in the seasons I am excited to share these breathtaking spring wedding ideas with a touch of Dutch flair.

From an inverted fresh floral canopy over tablescape comprised of 3000 tulips to lavish wedding styling in delft blue and white we could be transported to the tulip fields of Amsterdam.

Images were captured by Fiona Kelly Photography with concept by Elizabeths Cake Emporium and the creativity of a fabulous collaborative team.

Elizabeth says of the shoot…

The inspiration for the shoot was the book, Tulip Fever by Deborah Moggach I read about 15 years go,which was also released a few years ago as a film.

It’s a love triangle between a Dutch nobleman, his wife and the artist commissioned to paint her portrait at the height of the Tulip flower boom in Holland.

A still of the movie (a photo of the actress Alice Vikander in character in a royal blue dress with a white lace collar sitting by the window) gave me the idea of using Delft blue and white as the main colours for a spring wedding ideas shoot.

Having worked with Dutch florist Alice of All in One Season in the past, I knew Alice would be the perfect choice to bring the shoot to life.

Alice used 4 varieties of tulips (over 5,000) all in white which she sourced from British grower Smith and Munson.

The chosen palette was Delft blue and white as it is quintessentially Dutch. my vision being for the florals to be clean, crisp and contemporary but with an organic feel.

This look was carried through to the stationery, napkins, cakes and even the clogs.

The location for the shoot was Alice’s Dutch style showroom and home which was built by her carpenter husband in a Dutch farmhouse style and it added to the natural and rustic opulence feel of the shoot.

The stand out elements are the tulip canopy, the matching delft blue and white stationery and the beautiful hand painted wedding cakes and cookies.

A blue and white colour scheme can be very striking and makes for a wonderful combination, and is perfect for 2020 with its Classic blue

I was careful not to overdo the blue complimenting the shade with lots of crisp white linen, white crockery and bespoke stationery.

We also sourced lots of delft blue accessories and used them in an unusual way.
