Today I am excited to share some elegant monochrome city chic Wedding inspiration with aspects of French and African style.
In a world of weddings filled with pastels and whites, a black and white wedding can be a bold, brave and a rather striking choice.
Seyi wished to create an elegant afro chic bridal photoshoot inspired by French style, with a modern African twist, and a striking monochrome palette was the perfect compliment to the styling.
The venue for the shoot was the chic Town Hall Hotel.
An historic town hall building, complete with original architectural features set in the heart of the vibrant East End of London, the award-winning Town Hall Hotel marries Edwardian, art-deco and architectural splendor with cutting-edge design.
According to the Creative Director for the shoot Seyi Olusanya of Once Upon a Destination, “this venue is the perfect for the unconventional bride who wants to create an amazing experience for an intimate gathering’
Bridal stylist, Ajoke Savage of Senamin Savage, curated the most exquisite wedding dresses and accessories from couture designers Kosibah and Ian Stuart for this shoot, with the Grade II listed interior of polished oak and teak providing the perfect backdrop for the gowns.
Master Couturier Yemi Osunkoya of Kosibah designed two dresses for this shoot.
The first, MELPOMENE is a ballgown style dress, with a tulle bodice, a bateau neckline and cap sleeves.
It featured hand-stitched Swarovski embellished lace appliques, with a multilayer tulle skirt, cathedral train and a black grosgrain belt and a pearl and diamante brooch.
The second dress ‘Odile; a strapless fishtail couture bridal gown with a fitted bodice and an integral corset.
The ruched bodice was adorned with black hand stitched lace appliques in an asymmetrical arrangement.
Bridal dress designer Ian Stuart also designed two dresses.
The first was a distressed ivory raw silk strapless trumpet dress, with black geometric designs.
The second was also a strapless black hand made french lace overlay couture gown.
All these dresses were styled to perfection by Ajoke.
Bouffant updos, as well as slick hairstyles with pin curls were the order of the day.
The black and white colour scheme was an opportunity for something stronger so the make up was unapologetically bold, with statement lips in vibrant colours and emphasis on the eyes.
The polished glass dining table was beautifully set with place settings and table flowers by Amie Bone.
The flowers were kept very simple and featured mainly white flowers with the odd pink orchid providing a splash of colour.
These arrangements were in clear vases and ran along the length of the table.
Intricate Creations designed the very cool geometric menus and name cards in gold and black for each place setting, with leather chairs completing the overall look.
Elizabeth Solaru of Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium created a spectacular collection of geometric Art Deco-inspired cakes, cupcakes & iced biscuits in black, white and gold, using optical illusion techniques to create the lines, stripes and chevron patterns on the cakes.
