Today I am thrilled to spotlight on the beautiful bespoke Silk Flowers of Brides2Bouquets.
The brand is based in East Kilbride near Glasgow.
I hand you over to Fiona to tell you about her amazing work…
Who are you, and what do you do?
“I am Fiona Kirk floral designer at brides2bouquets, working with dreams, creating memories with gorgeous silk flowers for the bride, church, hotel or venue.”
When and why did you start your Company?
“I started in the flower industry on leaving school but later my career moved in a different direction.”
“During this time friends and colleagues would ask me to design their wedding flowers which I loved doing and when the opportunity arose in 2011 to work for myself I jumped at it.”
“It was around this time I had developed an allergy to fresh flowers so that is why I am working with silk flowers.”
What inspires you?
“I enjoy the design aspect in creating something new and beautiful that the bride is excited by.”
“And as every woman knows the finishing touches to any wedding gown is the flowers she carries.”
“Working with the bride I consider what will suit her gown and what style of bouquet she would want, either traditional or contemporary or something small and delicate.”
“ My personal favourite is a bouquet that is wild and hugely dramatic.
“It’s exciting to start the process with photos of the dresses, seeing the colours chosen for the bridesmaids along with ideas on flowers and bouquet styles.”
“ Knowing this in advance allows me to plan for the consultation.”
“Should the bride be unsure of what she would like I have some lovely sample bouquets to show for ideas.”
“My bridal bouquets are all bespoke pieces designed with the bride and during the consultation ideas and styles evolve.”
“I love the interaction between everyone during the consultation and it’s important to me that this is an enjoyable and exciting experience.”
Why choose silk flowers?
“Brides choose silk flowers for their bridal bouquets for different reasons.”
“They can receive them well in advance of their wedding and unlike fresh flowers have them to keep.”
“Also those that suffer from allergies have an alternative to fresh flowers.”
“At wedding fayres people are surprised that the bridal work is silk and have the need to touch them to prove it.”
“I have also been asked on many occasions about what I’m going to do with all the beautiful flowers at the end of the day, not realising they are silk.”
“It’s a fabulous compliment and it makes me smile.”
Do trends influence your work?
“I have always been excited by big dramatic styles abundant in colour greenery and wildness with that just picked out the garden look and I find more of my brides are opting for this style in their wedding flowers.”
“On the other hand a small pretty posy can also be just as beautiful, it’s about what the bride is happy with reflecting her personality. ”
“There has to be an element of being influenced by other designers but you do develop your own style as you grow.”
“Fabulous florists providing inspiration and creativity in their work. My constant aim is to offer silk flowers and designs that look as close to fresh flowers as possible.”
What do you see as the future of your Company?
“I have a workshop at home which is great for providing a more intimate and relaxed atmosphere, I enjoy working from home and brides seems to prefer that too.”
“The business has continued grow and I need to be really organised and creative with my storage space as 2017 weddings are booked in.”
“I see brides who have arranged consultations following wedding fayres, viewed my work on line and facebook or have been recommended by family and friends which is fabulous.”
“Moving forward I am pleased to say that brides are now booking me early in their wedding plans as their wedding florist because they are excited by my work and designs.”
“I have just started a photography course as I get frustrated that what I see with the eye doesn’t always transcend to the picture. I want to be able to show the quality depth and colour of the flowers in the photographs I am taking.”
Thank you so much to Fiona for sharing her exquisite silk flowers.
I recently met Fiona at a Wedding Fayre and was astounded by how pretty and incredibly realistic the flowers looked.
What a gorgeous keepsake of your special day with beautiful blooms that last forever, and also perfect for the destination bride.
