Today I am thrilled to share the work of Off With Her Head Millinery who specialise in creating amazing bespoke headwear with an alternative twist, whether it be bridal, burlesque, vintage gothic or geeky.
I spoke to Lisa Jones to find out all about her work
Who are you, and what do you do?
“I’m Lisa and I’m the creative talent behind Off With Her Head Millinery.”
“I design and create ‘amazing millinery with a twist’.
“I design all different styles of fascinators, mini hats and hair accessories from vintage to burlesque, gothic to geeky (and pretty much anything in between).”
When, and why did you start your Business?
“I started the business in 2008 after struggling to find a the perfect hat for an event I was attending.”
“I’ve always been interested in craft and design so I decided to create my own hat and from that point there has been no looking back.”
“Friends asked the inevitable ‘where did you get that hat?’, and then came the ‘can you make me one?’ and a business was born.”
“I’m primarily a self taught milliner, never shying away from new challenges and always keen to learn new skills!”
What inspires you?
“I take my inspiration from a wide range of sources… I adore vintage styles from the 1940’s and 1950’s and this is reflected in my ‘signature collection’.”
“I also take a lot of inspiration from film and TV, especially fantasy , Sci Fi and period drama.”
“My new collection that will be launching early summer has drawn inspiration from the Great British seaside.”
Do trends influence your work?
“I do follow some trends… I always look to the Pantone colours for spring/summer, autumn/winter and their ‘colour of the year’.”
“I also follow London Fashion Week to see what trends are emerging for the coming season.”
“But I’m not tied to trends, I create what I love and I hope other people love what I do!”
Whats your greatest achievement?
“I’ve been lucky over the past 7 years to work with some incredibly talented people.”
“I’ve created beautiful bridal headpieces and even a crown for singer Misha B!”
“But I’m most proud to have my hair flowers worn regularly by actress Kirsten Vangsness who plays the brilliant Penelope Garcia in Criminal Minds.”
“My greatest achievement during this time though has to be the births of my two beautiful daughters (soppy I know!).”
“They keep me grounded and allow me to push myself and my creativity.”
Tell us about the future for your Business..
“The future for my business… Well this year I’m launching 3 collections… ‘Beside The Seaside’ in early summer, ‘Essentially Scottish’ in the autumn and ‘Lost in Wonderland’ to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Alice in Wonderland.”
“I’m also taking on lots of lovely commissions at the moment from Brides-to-Be, Mothers of the Bride/Groom as well as some quirky pieces for customers too!”
“I love what I do and hope to be doing thus for many years to come!”
Thank you so much to Lisa for sharing her incredible workmanship and creativity and her fantastic bespoke hats
Such bold, eye catching designs for the Bride who wants something a wee bit different for her big day look or for the stylish guest or for a funky Bridesmaid that wants something special to adorn their head.
