I had a wee chat with Charlotte Lowcock who told me all about her work,

Who are you, and what do you do?

“My name is Charlotte. I live on the edge of the New Forest in Hampshire and make a range of Greetings Cards, Gift Tags, Accessories and Vintage Inspired Paper Products for all events and occasions.”

When and why did you start your Business?

“When I first started EdgeInspired, I was still working full time. I would spend break time and lunch times sat at my desk in the office busily wrapping up orders ready for posting after work.”

“As time progressed, my desk was becoming more and more covered with boxes and stating to look very much like a small Post Office.”

“My colleagues would often find me buried under mountains of tissue paper and ribbons as the orders piled in and break times never seemed long enough!”

“I would finish my day job, return home and work through into the night. Sometimes not finishing until the early hours, then be up and ready to leave for my day job again at 6.00am.”

“Finally, something had to give and with my partner Stuart and my families support, I decided to quit my day job and concentrate full time on the business. I haven’t looked back since.”

What inspires you?

“Ever since I was a small girl, I have always loved to make things and over the years, have spent many hours hording and collecting tiny treasures.”

“I find inspiration everywhere, be it an evening walk along the beach, a beautiful old building, a tiny shell, so many things!”

“It was our evening walks along the beach that first gave us the idea for our business name. Over time our nightly phrase ‘shall we go for a walk along the beach?’ became shortened to ‘shall we go to the edge’ and because much of our inspiration comes from walking by the shore the name Edge Inspired was born.”

“I love browsing through wedding magazines and online wedding blogs and find these a great source of inspiration. I also find it very inspiring to work with our lovely brides.”

“It’s always so interesting to get to know the story behind the themes that they have chosen for their special day and to work with them to help make their dreams become a reality.”

Do trends have a major impact on your work?

“I always like to keep an eye on trends especially popular colours that I can incorporate into my designs. ”

What’s your greatest accomplishment?

“One of the most unexpected benefits was entering Theo Paphitis’s SBS (Small Business Sunday) on Twitter. I was lucky enough to become an SBS winner!”

“I’ve also been lucky enough to have had my products featured in some fabulous magazines including Perfect Wedding, Wedding Flowers and Ideal Home.”

What’s the future for your Business?

“I have so many exciting plans for Edge Inspired. We are currently working on some new designs for our Eco friendly wedding range and with lots of weddings already booked for 2013 I’m hoping for an exciting year.”

Some Final thoughts…

“Always be true to yourself, follow your dreams, be prepared to work hard and never give up.”

“Never underestimate the power of social media, especially Twitter. We have met so many wonderful and inspiring people and it has given us so many fantastic opportunities.”

“Customer service is everything and always be prepared to go that extra mile.”

“A little extra effort on your part can mean so much to someone. We always include a personal hand written thank you note with each of our orders. It’s the little details that make the difference.”

Thanks so much to Charlotte for sharing her work. I love the natural look and vintage edge  and these beautiful products would be a stunning compliment to any event.
