Entertainment for your Wedding Day from Hire a Band

Choosing entertainment for your Wedding Day can be an absolute minefield, but today I am delighted to introduce Entertainment Agency Hire A Band who can make the process smoother and much more enjoyable.

Nothing says what a great party better than a dance floor packed with family and friends having fun and celebrating all night long.

Hire a Band can benefit your Wedding by helping you source the very best bands, DJ’s and musicians suited to your Big Day.

I hand over to owner Del Cotton to tell you more…

Who are you, and what do you do?

We’re an entertainment agency specialising in wedding bands, wedding DJ’s and musicians.

When and why did you start your Company?

I started the company in 1999. Back then I was a full-time musician in a wedding band.

We got so busy that I spent a lot of time trying to help disappointed couples find alternatives to us.

Those bands spread the word and soon I had a small roster of musicians I knew and trusted that I could recommend without any risk to my own reputation.

To this day our reputation is in the hands of the bands we recommend so our standards are the toughest in the business.

What inspires you?

I know I should really say something along the lines of helping to contribute towards making a couple’s big day full of happy memories and admittedly that is the biggest part of what Hireaband is about, but speaking personally, I’m first and foremost a musician.

To this day nothing excites me more than finding a great new band to add to our roster or listening to really talented musicians.

It’s incredibly hard to make a living from music; I’m most proud of the fact that over the years Hireaband has put millions of pounds into the pockets of Scottish musicians.

Do trends influence your work?

Absolutely. There are changing trends in the world of wedding bands just as much as there are on dresses and venues.

We have offices in England and for a while if you were in a band that looked and sounded like Mumford & Son you were golden.

In Scotland I’ve noticed a trend towards a slightly edgier, rockier sound. There’s actually a good reason for that which I may tell you about later.

Do you have a favourite wedding style?

From my days as a wedding musician I loved performing in the big Baronial Scottish houses.

Our music was in no way traditional but I did love the atmosphere.

What I can tell you is that regardless of style, the more laid back and the less rigid a couple are, the more likely they and their guests are to have a fantastic evening. Uptight couples have uptight weddings every single time.

What do you love most about your Job?

As I said earlier, I’m a music fan and more importantly a fan of the people who actually make the music.

I’m incredibly proud that my business gets to represent and work with really stunning musicians.

We got a new video in just the other day for one of our bands; it was so good the entire office stopped what they were doing to watch it.

All the hairs were standing up in the back of my neck – you can’t buy that feeling. That’s why I do what I do.

What do you do in your chill time/perfect day off?

I spend as much time with my wife and two daughters as I can.

I also have a Border Terrier that I’ve never been able to figure out. Walking him is a never-ending adventure.

Funnily enough, I don’t spend a lot of time listening to music on my time off – that would be a busman’s holiday.

What is your greatest achievement?

There have been several milestones; getting the business off the ground in the first place back in 1999.

In 2004 my wife was able to join me full time having been, up until then, that one thing every musician needs – a bread winner.

We’ve won 4 VOWS Awards – a record for our sector.

In 2006 we turned over a million pounds for the first time which was both exciting and terrifying.

In 2011 we became the first entertainment agency in the world to successfully franchise our business.

Recently we bought and refurbished our current offices in my home village of West Kilbride – we saved a beautiful old building from dilapidation and now employ seven local incredibly talented people full time.

When I look around the office during the occasional quiet moment I’m filled with a deep sense of gratitude for all the people that have helped and supported me and my dream over the years.

What do you see as the future of your Company?

We’re by far the biggest supplier of wedding entertainment in Scotland, but we’ve got a good bit to go to be the biggest in the UK.

We’ll continue to grow both at home here in Scotland but also across the rest of the UK – we’ve got some really disruptive ideas we’ll be rolling out in the mid term that I think will revolutionise our industry.

We expect to double the size of our team within the next 36 months too. It’s great fun but scary at times too.

So whether you are looking for a Wedding Band in Glasgow, or wedding bands or DJs throughout the country Hire A Band has the right musician for you to create some wonderful memories…

I’m also really thrilled that they have joined the Plans and Presents family as a Blog Sponsor…
