Today I am thrilled to share the awesome talent of the fabulous Chrissie at Hat Therapy.
Chrissie ensures that the ladies of Yorkshire and beyond are donned with the most spectacular and elegant of headwear.
I had a wee chat with her to find out all about what she does.
Who are you and what do you do ?
“I am Chrissie King, owner of Hat Therapy and designer and maker of handmade hats and accessories in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. My days are taken up with pinning, sewing, snipping, steaming and trimming of the hats I sell in my shop and online.”
When, and why did you start your Business ?
“I opened my shop in Hebden Bridge in December 2005.”
“For a year and a half prior to this I had been working from home and finishing my millinery course at York college.”
“But at the time my Husband was unwell and we needed somewhere to live and for me to work so we bought a shop with living area above.”
“When I moved in I was 5 months pregnant at 43 years old which was a huge surprise.”
What inspires you ?
“I am inspired by farbic, shape, architecture, nature and almost anything that catches my eye.”
Are you influenced by Trends ?
“I always have Vogue in the shop for the latest colours and trends, but I prefer to make my creations from instinct. ”
“My bespoke clients require such a varied scope of headwear that you create your own trends constantly.”
What is your favourite design, and why ?
“My favourite hat is the beret or the cloche. I have made many and don’t have a favourite piece as there’s always another in the workroom to fall in love with.”
What is your biggest achievement ?
” My biggest acheviement was opening Hat Therapy (being half and half of me I am a qualifed Homeopath so I can look after the inside of your head aswell as the outside) and having my daughter soon after, I don’t do things by half!”
What is the future for Hat Therapy?
“At the moment I have the retail shop, and an online beret shop which has opened recently.”
“I design for a couple of boutiques, and sell headbands on What I always wanted and have a constant flow of commissions through the door, so who knows I what the future will bring, but its bright!”
“I was also thrilled to have my headwear featured in Unique Bride Magazine thanks to my pal Shelly, super photographer behind the lens at Toast of Leeds Photojournalism.”
Whether you are looking for an everyday hat, whether you are looking for something for the races, whether you are Mother of the Bride or Groom or just a Wedding Guest, Hat Therapy can create something special.
Even as a Bride Chrissie can take your imagination and bring something eyecatching and unique to make your Wedding headpiece truly unforgettable.
Her designs are chic, they are contemporary, they are stylish and can be adapted so that they suit your own personality.
She is also a top lady and lovely to chat to, and her passion for her work really shows.
