Natural characterful Surrey Wedding Photography from Alexander Leaman Photography

Today I am delighted to welcome Alexander Leaman Photography as a new Blog Sponsor & tell you all about his natural characterful Surrey Wedding Photography.

I hand you over to Jason to tell you all about his photography…

Who are you, and what do you do?

“Hi! My name is Jason, and along with my wife Carrie run Alexander Leaman Photography – a Surrey based Wedding Photography outfit.”

“Alexander is my middle name, but you can call me Jason – everybody does.”

When and why did you start your Company?

“I shot my First Wedding in 2003.”

“Up until that point I was working in the celebrity and fashion world, running studios, running productions, running around.”

“I learned a lot about what I didn’t want to be as a photographer!”

“Even at that stage I was more interested in character, and weddings are all about character.”

“The story of two people getting together and pronouncing it to the world is probably the most optimistic and confident statement anyone can make and that interests me as a photographer and storyteller.”

“Much more than fashion photography ever did.”

“In fact to us it’s proof-of-life stuff, and it’s real – there’s no faking it at a wedding – it’s seeing people at their most visceral & authentic and trying to bottle it up and stop time for a moment.”

“I love what photography means to me, it means everything, and though it sounds cheesy, I love being able to give that to people who need it to mean everything to them too.”

What inspires you?

“I’m inspired by time.”

“What it means to be in the here and now, and trying to grab hold of anything that means something in all of the chaos. (Did I say this was going to be cheesy?!)”

“People inspire me.”

“People who are brave and vulnerable and honest. Imperfection inspires me. I love art and music. I love hearing my children recount something they’ve learned.”

“I’m not really inspired by any one photographer. There are so many great photographers today, and if I see something I like, I filter it and it gets mixed up and turned into something new.”

“I like to push my own learning about photography all the time, so I’m usually incredibly inspired by something that went well at the last wedding I shot.”

Do trends influence your work?

“They might do in the sense that wedding couples that come to me usually have already formulated an idea about pretty much exactly what they want.”

“They are the trend setters! Sometimes I really don’t know what to expect, and sometimes I’m brought in to brainstorm, or contribute to the planning in some way.”

“I’m extremely focused on timings at any wedding, so I can often help with that.”

What is your greatest achievement?

“The best wedding I ever photographed was the last wedding I photographed, until the next one!”

“Our greatest achievement in business is staying in business for as long as we have, without straying from our original core principles.”

“We’ve never copied or tried to be someone else, and have never delivered less than the best we could do at the time.”

“It has meant that we have been hugely successful without compromising on our product.”

“It has also meant that any failures in business (and there have been a few) have been our own. I’m proud of that.”

“We have three beautiful children and a happy family home, which trumps everything.”

What do you see as the future of your Company?

“I just want to keep getting better.”

“People are in more control of their wedding styling and location than ever before, but I think if you strip a lot of it away weddings have actually become more refined and simplified.”

“People are now less restricted and more focused, not just on what it’s going to be, but also on why they’re even doing it.”

“I’m really happy with the way things are today, and although I have some exciting plans for the future, with photography, personal projects, podcasting, and some other ideas, I think, we both think, feel, that we’re only just getting started.”

“It’s taken a long time to get to where we are and a lot of nurture, and there’s always the capacity to learn more and adapt to a new situation.”

“Then there’s the technology, which is good and bad in some ways.”

“Sometimes new technology can be a distraction – for example I think we’ll see a lot of drone photography over the next few years, and it might stay, but more likely become yesterday’s news before too long.”

“Better technology with cameras means more competition in business.”

“Before ong everyone’s the best wedding photographer in Surrey – Alexander Leaman Photography is known as a go-to wedding photographer in Surrey and Hampshire today, but that status needs to be maintained.”

“I’d like us to be more well known for producing cutting edge wedding photography in the future! Who wouldn’t want that?”

What should couples do if they want to book you?

“Firstly, people need to check that we’re available for their date!”

“I know that sounds obvious, but we do get a lot of enquiries and summer dates especially fill up quickly.”

“We’re not about the big sell here. We want people to know that we’re approachable and if things evolve into booking then that’s cool too.”

“Finding out about people is the beginning of what we do, and we often become a big part of a couple’s experience, so it has to be right.”

“We’ve built our services and Core Collections to be solid, thoughtful products that also happen to be great value.”

“We’re not the cheapest photographers out there, but we’re certainly not the most expensive.”

Prices are all upfront, and are often the last thing talked about anyway.”

“We understand when people want to “price shop” – sometimes the budget is the most important thing. That’s OK.”

“We’re just not very good at dealing with the “What’s your best Price?” question, especially if it’s the first thing people want to ask. It’s a question of value…”

“For us the Photography comes first, along with the story. When people come to us with that in mind, great things happen!”

“Have a look at our website and get a feel for what we do and why we do it, then get in touch with us to arrange a meeting, whether that’s by Skype or face to face.”

“It’s important to us that our couples don’t feel under pressure. We’re not here to corner you into spending money.”

“When you engage with us we want you to enjoy the experience and we’re excited to be able to add another layer to the enjoyment and fun of your wedding. We’re here to help.”

Thank you to Jason for sharing an insight into his Business and telling us all about his Surrey Wedding Photography.

I look forward to sharing lots more of his work very soon…
