Petals and Lace – Capturing memories through Floral Preservation

Today I am delighted to showcase the work of Petals and Lace  who are experts in preserving flowers and have been established in the art of Floral Preservation for over 25 years.

They can capture exquisite individual flowers or complete bouquets from any occasion, from weddings, engagements and anniversaries, to births, christenings, special birthdays, sporting achievements and funerals, and can also preserve groom’s button hole, mother’s corsage or bridesmaid’s flowers.

They also preserve funeral flowers, mounted alongside other items such as a photograph, a lock of hair, or a poem for example, providing a very personal tribute to your loved one.

I had the privilege of chatting to Vicky Blackmore who I met last month at the Wedding Ideas Awards and she tells me a wee bit more about the Business,

Who are you and what do you do ?

“I am Vicky Blackmore, Owner of Petals and Lace, Floral preservation for all occasions.”

When and why did you start your Business?

“I have always loved Art & craft work as a hobby & I used to help the owner of Petals and Lace with her flower preservation at busy times.”

“She ran the business at her home in Great Dunmow, Essex for 23 years then, 2 years ago she had to retire due to ill health.”

” I decided to leave my job, working in Primary School, teaching children with Autism, and take over the business full time & move it to my home in Danbury, Essex.”

“There are very few people that are able to provide this service and it would have been sad for such a lovely business to stop.”

What inspires you?

“My Brides! I like to get to know each one and design frames that reflect their personality, this is the reason I deal with each Bride myself and limit the amount of bouquets we take each week so we can provide a personal service tailored to each individual.”

Do trends have any impact on your design ?

“Yes, colour fashion and flower trends as well as the fashion of frames creates an ever changing look to my work.”

What has been your greatest achievement?

“Being honoured to preserve many Olympic winners Bouquets, including double Gold Medallist, Laura Trott.”

Whats the future for your Business?

“My aim is to ensure that all brides know that they can have their bouquet preserved.”

” I hate having brides ring me a week after their wedding when their bouquet is dying & they have discovered floral preservation & having to tell them it is too late for me to preserve it.”

“Every bouquet is different and the memorabilia included in the frame varies for every wedding, from the brides veil, jewellery or garter, to horseshoes, invitation, top table decorations and name cards.”

“We have recently purchased a freeze drier which means we can achieve even better results with our flowers. I have lots of ideas for exciting new products that we will be introducing over the next few months and our website is currently being redesigned,  due to be launched within a few weeks.”

“I’m also working with The Traditional Vintage Flower Company  producing bespoke real petals for her brides. How wonderful to have beautiful, biodegradable confetti, aisle or table petals made from the same flowers as your bouquets!”

Thanks so much to Vicki for sharing her story. I wish I had the foresight to do something like this.

I tossed my Bouquet for all the ladies but kept my Bridesmaid bouquet. I still have it but its withered now and this would have been such a beautiful way to remember.

Floral Preservation is not only something special to do for yourself but also as a gift to someone else that may not have thought about it before, such a wonderful way to capture memories.
