I hand over to Susan to tell us about her Business…

Who are you, and what do you do?

“I am Susan Dick and I’m the designer behind Susan Dick Jewellery & Bridal Accessories.”

“I design and make bespoke wedding accessories and jewellery using luxury lace, pearls and crystals.”

When and why did you start your Company?

“I’ve always had a creative streak, always doing a night class in something be it cooking, photography, soft furnishings, upholstery to name but a few!”

“I then trained in Interior Architecture/Design but it took a trip to the Briggait open studios in Glasgow a few years ago when I finally decided that I needed to take the leap and pursue my need to design and create.”

“So after spending a few years re-training in jewellery design and making pieces for colleagues, friends and family, I decided to take the plunge and start my own business.”

“The business was officially launched in the summer of 2013 and it’s been a huge success.”

“It’s been a very steep learning curve – but it’s been worth it!”

What inspires you?

“Travel, Cities, Architecture, beautiful design, fashion, textiles, jewellery, oh and photography, and a good song on the radio – one that make you want to belt it out and dance around the room when no one is looking!”

“Also lovely views that take your breath away (on one of our many country drives in Scotland).”

“I’d love to sit in one of those white washed terraces in Santorini with the sun on my face and just take the view in.”

“I’d probably end up with my sketch book out after 5 mins though!”

Do trends influence your work?

“Yes definitely. I’m already planning my range for 2015 based on the trends coming through from the White Gallery, London and New York Bridal Week.”

“The vintage style is still going to be a big part of my range mainly focusing on Hollywood Glamour but I will still have a range of birdcage veils for the ladies who like a bit of 50s and also my range of lace headpieces and cuffs, which have proved popular this year.”

What is your greatest achievement?

“My daughter Olivia. She’s a delight – a beautiful, kind and very funny little girl.”

“Also starting my company whilst holding down my day job and looking after my family.”

What do you see as the future of your Company?

“To continue to refine my style, build my brand and grow the company over the next year.”

“If you’d like to design a bespoke piece or discuss one of the pieces from my current range please contact me.”

“Appointments are available in my home studio in Motherwell, or via telephone, during the day, evenings and weekends.”

“Please email in the first instance.”
