Today I am thrilled to share the gorgeous work of Mrs W Tutus who creates Tutus & tutu dresses, tulle crowns & wands, individually hand made in the UK, for Bridesmaids, Flower Girls & Princesses everywhere.
I spoke to the lovely Kate Winchurst to find out all about her wonderful work…
Who are you, and what do you do?
“I’m Kate, Head Creative Lady at Mrs W Tutus – I am Wife to Dan & Mummy to my 3 in-house models….Isabel is (nearly) 9, Molly is 7 & Amelia is 4 & a half!”
“We also have a slightly demented Cocker Spaniel called Tana!”
“Here at Mrs W Tutus, from the comfort of what used to be our dining room table I hand make Tutus, Tutu Dresses, Tulle Crowns & Wands for Bridesmaids & Flower Girls.”
“Of course they are also available for little Princesses who simply want to twirl at the bottom of the Garden!”
When and why did you start your Company?
“Mrs W Tutus came about early last year.”
“Due to a change in circumstances, I needed to be able to work from home doing something that would not only fit in around school runs, ballet lessons, the weekly shop etc but that would also fulfil my need to be creative.”
“I have been sewing for a number of years now – I graduated from the University of Northampton in 2000 with a BA(Hons) in Fashion and went on to make a number of Wedding/Bridesmaids Dresses for friends & family, so this seemed like a logical choice to form the business around.”
“I am a “One Woman Band” and doing everything by hand myself is hugely important to me.”
“To be able to make something wonderful, just for YOU is a special concept that even some of the littlest Princesses can understand & this is what puts a smile on my face each and every day!”
What inspires you?
“The seemingly endless imaginations of Small Children inspire me.”
“I watch my Daughters play together (not always harmoniously of course!), and the depth of involvement and creativity never ceases to amaze me!”
“They show me that if you can Dream it, you can achieve it and so I try and apply that to everything I do!”
“That, and coffee…..lots of coffee!”
Do trends influence your work?
“In some ways, yes – the biggest influence will usually be what colours/colour schemes are currently popular.”
“The wonderful thing about my Tutus is that they can be pretty much any colour or combination of colours you would like so your choices are never limited!”
What is your greatest achievement?
“I am still very much a fledgling business, but this year so far my greatest achievement has been being able to have my work displayed at the National Wedding Show at the NEC and working closely with Alex at The Great British Wedding.”
“It might not seem like much to some, but it has been hugely important to me!”
What do you see as the future of your Company?
“My hope is that it will continue to go from strength to strength, whilst retaining the very personal touch that having everything handmade by me provides!”
“I hope to one day see Mrs W Tutus being stocked in some of the truly fabulous independent Bridal Boutiques that we have in this country!”
