Today I am excited to share a brand new & exciting aspect to styling your Big Day with the arrival of Wedding Couture Chairs where Interior design takes a step into the bridal arena with gorgeous upholstery.
The brand is based in London.
I hand over to Jo to tell you all about this blossoming Business…
Who are you, and what do you do?
“We are Jo and Mark. I’m an interior designer and Mark is a third generation upholsterer, together we have created a new company called Couture Chairs.”
“As well as running our company we also have 4 children together ranging from 17 to 2 years old, a British bulldog and three cats……… so we are pretty busy really!”
When and why did you start your Company?
“We set up Couture Chairs as an outlet for our combined creativity.”
“Inspired by the Alexander McQueen exhibition at the V &A we wanted to start a couture upholstery brand which was highly bespoke, imaginative, innovative and fun.”
“Our Wedding chair idea was inspired by our floral chair we designed and made for Lan Nguyen-Grealis’s Art and Make up book launch which kick started London Fashion Week 2015.”
“The theme was Secret Garden and was a garden style grass runway with a banqueting table at the end.”
“We wanted it to look like the chair had become entwined with the garden.”
“The chair was covered in colourful flowers and had delicate butterflies and ivy growing up the ornate legs.”
“Everyone fell in love with this chair, and we thought it was the perfect chair for falling in love.”
“We wanted to make more of these exquisite chairs, we wanted more people to have the chance to be delighted by the delicate beauty of this chair and hence our Wedding Couture Chairs idea was born.”
“The chairs can be designed with any floral combination and look especially effective when they reflect the brides bouquet.”
“They are perfect to sit on during the wedding ceremony itself and create a stunning end of aisle feature on your big day.”
“Following the ceremony they can then create a gorgeous centrepiece for the head table at your wedding breakfast.”
“I think the most fantastic thing about our Wedding Chairs is that they can be kept forever as a memory of your special day.”
“We can even explore making chairs with bespoke printed fabrics telling the story of the bride and groom or chairs that can be signed with loving positive wishes by all the guests! The possibilities are endless”
“Couture Wedding Chairs can be made with either silk or fresh flowers and each chair is totally unique to you.”
“You can choose the colour of the frame and choose from a variety of fabrics such as crushed velvet, silks, or even a fabric with just a touch of sparkle for the upholstered seat.”
What inspires you?
“Design is a passion we both share and when we get time we love nothing more than a mooch around the Tate or looking around the individual shops in Shoreditch and Brick lane.”
“We find couture fashion hugely inspiring and are in complete awe of the designers my favourite at the moment being Ralph and Russo.”
“We both adore Alexander Mcqueen’s work and, as I said before his exhibition at the V&A was just so inspiring it led to the creation of Couture Chairs.”
“We also get inspired by the people we meet.”
“We have had the pleasure of meeting some incredibly talented fashion designers, milliners, and wedding specialists.”
“Our clients also can have wonderful ideas and vision and its so exciting to work with them to bring their ideas to life.”
Do trends influence your work?
“Yes of course. I follow the wedding trends for each season as well as keeping up with current fashion and interior trends.”
“We try and create something new and different each time which is a real challenge.”
“Our chairs are totally unique to each bride so even though we can be influenced by current trends we are certainly not led by them.”
“We want to bring out the individual style and personality of our client and reflect it in the chair we produce.”
What is your greatest achievement?
“I think our greatest achievement is creating a work life balance.”
“It may sound a bit of a cliche but we love our work and are totally passionate about what we do but we also have four children at home who all need time and attention and someone to talk to about their day.”
“Our time and focus can be split in many directions but we would not have it any other way.”
What do you see as the future of your Company?
“We think our chairs are a unique, special one off purchase and not only dress the wedding beautifully but then can be kept as a memento of the day.”
” Alternatively you can gift these special chairs to the Mothers or bridesmaids as a thank you!
“I hope in the future brides will consider us an absolute must have for their day.”
“We have launched Couture Chairs with the flower bride and groom chairs but we have many designs we are working on.”
“Our monogram design is proving popular.”
“Couples can have their own monogram designed and then embroidered which we then will place on the back of the chair.”
“We are also using fabric flowers, bespoke printed fabrics and crystal and pearl embellishments on our chairs.”
“Our eldest son already works for us part-time while studying photography at college.”
“I would love to offer my children the option of joining a thriving family business as a career if they so wished.”
Aren’t they stunning, what an incredible way to create a stylish statement look at your Wedding…
