The Grand Central Hotel Glasgow for your City Chic Big Day

Today I am thrilled to shine the spotlight on the Grand Central Hotel Glasgow, a shining Scottish Jewel in the crown of the Principal Hayley Group.

In the heart of Glasgow, adjacent to Glasgow Central Station stands the historic Grand Central Hotel.

A much-loved icon in the city, the hotel has undergone a £20 million refurbishment transforming it into one of Glasgow’s most stylish, conference, training, wedding, banqueting and short break destinations and once again takes its place as Glasgow’s leading four-star hotel.

Going back to the history of the Hotel, Central Station Glasgow was opened in 1879 and the Central Hotel came shortly after in 1883.

Designed by architect Robert Rowand Anderson in the Queen Anne style, the hotel is a great example of this architectural approach with its picturesque details, intricate gables and multi-paned windows.

Over the years, the hotel was extended and adapted but the main architecture was maintained.

The Central Hotel took its place in history as the venue to which the world’s first long-distance television pictures were transmitted on 24 May 1927 by John Logie Baird.

Since then Central Hotel has entertained most of the world’s leading politicians, from JFK to Winston Churchill and Hollywood superstars including Laurel and Hardy and Frank Sinatra, not to mention Roy Rogers and his trusty Trigger!

It was reported that Trigger had a bigger suite than Roy Rogers!


The Hotel is also renowned for its exceptional weddings and for hosting spectacular proms, graduations, award dinners, charity fundraisers, product launches or intimate birthday and anniversary celebrations.

The Hotel caters for events big or small.

The magnificent Grand Room with its ornate ceiling and marble pillars has a capacity for up to 400 guests, and smaller intimate gatherings can be held in the Regent and Victoria rooms for up to 200 guests.


The hotel is fully licensed for civil ceremonies too.


On occasion the Hotel hold Wedding Showcases where they have all their wedding suites dressed giving couples a chance to see how the perfect wedding will look.

I can say for a fact that the Afternoon Tea is absolutely sublime.

Other lovely features are Champagne corner, a wee nook just beside the Champagne Bar.

It gives you a great view of the station for people watching and also a great space for time out for families or the more mature guest who need a break from the music and dancing in the function suites.


The Hotel holds a special place in Glasgow history and I remember it from days gone by before its refurbishment.

It was special then but post refurbishment and with ongoing improvements its taking a step up.
