Today I am thrilled to share this colourful Alice in Wonderland inspired Wedding at Thornton Manor.
Images were captured by About Today Photography.
About Today Photography is beautiful Wedding and portrait photography by Zoe & Tom a husband and wife team based in Manchester.
They describe their style as artistic, contemporary, relaxed and colourful.
I hand over to beautiful Bride Kat to share her love story…
How did you meet?
We met through mutual friends, bumping into each other at social events, eventually Ray asked me out for a drink and it went from there.
Tell us about the Engagement…
We’d been together for 9 years, have 2 little boys and Ray kept saying “Let’s get married.”
If I’m honest I kept saying no we were fine as we were plus if you want he wanted me to give a proper answer he needed to propose properly (Ray is not a romantic man by nature.)
Anyway to my utter surprise he went out picked the most beautiful ring and arranged a lunch date in the country pub where we had our first date.
It was wonderfully thoughtful and a total surprise.
Tell us about your wedding planning journey…
We decided to get married the following year which would mark our 10 years together.
We really wanted to make the day personal and as much about our guests as us.
We choose our local church were the children were christened the vicar is a fabulous man who made the day so memorable.
For the reception we choose a marquee to be the back drop for our theme.
We spent a lot of time thinking about the journey of the guest at a wedding the lulls that needed to be filled to keep them entertained.
We ultimately wanted to take them on a mystery journey just like Alice, not quite sure what was going to happen next.
I really wanted to add hand made touches, the button bouquets were a labour of love especially making 9 of them but I loved collecting all the charms I attached to them.
The vintage keys I collected attached to Polaroid images and that made our seating plan.
We also wanted our 2 little boys to stand out so I hand made their little velvet jackets inspired by the white rabbit from the Tim Burton remake of Alice in wonderland.
What was the theme /colour palette of your Big Day?
I liked the idea of afternoon tea, and the most famous afternoon tea of course is the Mad Hatters, we also wanted to change the theme in the evening to add a surprise twist.
These themes allowed my imagination to run wild.
The marquee was the perfect back drop for my wonderland, the tables were filled with vintage china and flowers, Eat me and drink me favours with hand tied tags.
I wanted as much colour as possible.
The magician we had also brought out everyone’s inner child. And as the dusk fell we had sparklers as the perfect transition into the evening.
For the evening the bridesmaids and I got changed and the room was switched to a 1920’s speakeasy complete with Jazz band and casino tables.
The adult bridesmaids were different shades of blues with quirky coloured shoes and the flower girls were candy colour to make the blues pop,
The groomsman matched perfectly with odd socks, the colours for everything else were as bright as possible every colour of the rainbow.
For the evening the colours changed to teal and gold with glamorous flapper inspired dresses.
What was the best bit of your day?
The best bit of the day was seeing how much fun everyone was having, including Ray everyone indulging their inner child.
Also so many of our wonderful friends had helped with various bits, seeing it all come together how I’d imagine was a dream come true.
What advice would you give to other couples getting married?
Take time to think about how you want your day to flow, the devil really is in the detail.
Also it’s easy to get swept away with excitement and make some decisions you may later wish you made different choices.
Be methodical, think about the things that really matter to you and make your wedding a statement about you.
Thank you so much to Zoe and Tom for sharing this pretty Alice in Wonderland inspired Wedding.
So much detail has gone into the styling, perfectly encapsulating the theme.
Such a fun and relaxed celebration of love…
