On a chilly February morning Lynda McPherson woke with nervous excitement…this was the day she was going to say I do!
But this was no ordinary Wedding…. 14 years ago Lynda married Gordon on a shoestring, in a Registry Office but she had always dreamed of the perfect White Wedding since she was a little girl.
It was always the plan to marry again but that was until the Cancer came..
Lynda was diagnosed with Renal Cancer in 2009 and initially had an operation to remove her kidney but this didn’t stop progression of the disease.
20 months ago Lynda was told her Cancer was terminal. An intolerance to chemotherapy means that she can only take drugs to help slow things down.
The doctors gave her 2 years to live…..
It was Lynda’s last wish that she marry Gordon again. She says ” I look pale and ill most of the time so I want the lasting picture that Gordon has of me to be a happy one.”
Knowing that their time was limited, Lynda wrote to the Honeyrose Foundation, a charity who organise special days for the terminally ill.
The Foundation contacted Laura Hogg [soon to appear on The Apprentice] who runs Laura Reece Bridal.
Laura offered a stunning Wedding gown and put out a plea for help on her Facebook Page.
This is where I came in. I spoke to Laura, and then to the Foundation and took over co-ordination of the Day and sourcing of Suppliers.
I put out a plea through Facebook and Twitter, and through the enormous generosity of many U.K Wedding Suppliers an amazing day evolved.
At her first Wedding Lynda borrowed her shoes and Dress from her mother in law, and their Reception was a Pub Buffet but this time no expense was spared…
We sourced everything needed for Lynda and Gordon’s perfect day including gowns, a photographer , favours, flowers, cars, stationery etc….it was incredible.
Personally for me this is the most heartwarming Wedding that I have ever worked on. Many firms are struggling financially in the current economic climate but on hearing the circumstances, they offered to help immediately.
Lynda renewed those vows at the Church of St Vincent De Paul in Thorliebank on the 16th February 2012 watched by 30 close family and friends.
She was walked down the aisle by her dad Ronald, her daughters Stacey and Beckie and sister Pamela, and gorgeous little flowergirl Billi.
Thereafter followed a beautiful reception at the Busby Hotel, attended by several of the Suppliers who had made the day possible.
Lynda said of the day “I can’t thank everyone enough. I never dreamed anyone would go to all this bother for me. Everything about our big day was perfect.
I feel this disease has robbed me of so much but at the same time I’m the luckiest woman on earth because I have such a wonderful husband. I hope he’ll remember this day forever.”
