The purpose of the shoot was to provide a portfolio of the Blossom and Belle collection that will be launched in the Autumn.
Images were captured by Chris Marriot Photography with a fabulous collaborative team.
Blossom and Belle was created by fashion designer Antonia Aitken who specialized in Bridal wear after graduating with a BA hons in Textiles and Fashion.
After Antonia graduated she set up as Antonia Houston Bridal Wear for three years before taking time out to have a family.
Now after having three beautiful children Antonia is ready to throw herself back into what she loves best.
Working along side her sister in law Sarah who after having her first child felt deflated about the lack of post maternity clothes asked Antonia to make a dress for her to make her feel good about her body again. So Blossom and Belle was created.
Antonias first design was a beautiful wrap dress and is still so popular after three years of establishing Blossom and Belle.
They worked along side a print designer Nor-Lisa to create a beautiful blossom and butterfly print in organic cottons and silk. Also sourcing fabric on line to create a cheaper range enabling the label to be affordable for everyone.
Antonia however still wanted to revive her love of Bridal wear. Creating beautiful gowns for the individual bride of any shape or size.
The whole process of getting a Blossom and Belle bespoke dress is very special. Antonia is able immediately to tell what a bride will suit.
It is a very special experience when you come for a Bespoke gown from the design process, the making of the toile which is a complete mock up garment of the gown letting the bride see the silhouette and for any changes to be made.
Antonia works in the finest of silks, even using silk as the lining and hand embroideries using Swarovski crystals as in the blue Taffeta prom dress in the photos
She says… “I want the bride to feel so special throughout the whole process.”
“Sometimes when they step into the toile which is only made of calico I have a few brides and mothers of the bride who have shed a tear or two at how lovely it looks.”
“I want the bride to feel extra special, we will go through my sketches and fabrics and the bride will often leave on the first consultation knowing they are in the best hands”
Antonia likes the bride to have their first consultation 9 months before the wedding day so that every one is put at ease.
It will involve at least five fittings and the dress is always ready in plenty of time before the wedding to alleviate any stress.
Blossom and Belle also can do Bride and Bridesmaids which makes all the dresses come together beautifully so there is no worries about having to go elsewhere.
Working alongside other suppliers they also re able to provide shoes, tiaras, flowers and headwear.
Antonia shares her recollections of the shoot…
“The Tithe Barn is a beautiful historic venue in the village of Poppleton. It is often used for weddings so was a perfect venue to photograph the collection.”
“We wanted the feel of a mad hatter tea party inside the hall to show a range of the Blossom and Belle ready to wear with the Bridal wear.”
“For the tea party we wanted a relaxed feel of everyone enjoying themselves. We also arranged for a vintage caravan to be outside the barn as a backdrop for the vintage inspired dresses.”
“The caravan from Pip Vintage Hire is also used as a photo booth so pictures were taken inside. We tried to take as many shots outside as we could as the grounds around the barn are quite beautiful.”
“The dresses were accessorized with beautiful headwear from both Janette Glassby Millinery and Tiaras by Louise Pollock.”
“The makeup was by top make up artist Alison Martin who didn’t stop for six hours making sure everyone was looking perfect.”
“The models were a collection of friends (my daughter Lara wearing the prom dress and Tiana as one of the bridesmaids with her little friend) and the suppliers who were roped in to wear a Blossom and Belle dress! In the caravan is myself in the middle, Nikki Nelson from Cakes D’Licious, Trish Harrop from Pip Vintage Hire, Louise Pollock and Lainey Hawcutt.”
“Everyone got on so well on the day and worked so well as a team. We are all looking forward to working together for Blossoms and Belle collection launch in September and we got a feel of the barn for Blossom and Belles Bridal Tea party next year.”
“The shoes were a mix of quick purchases from high street stores and two pairs of beautiful shoes in the shoot are by Rachel Simpson Shoes. Mimosa, powder blue and Jasmine in Gold.”
Thank you so much to the Antonia for sharing her stunning work, and for the collaborative team coming together so well to showcase the prettiness to maximum effect.
The romance of bygone eras is as beautiful today as it was then, and with exceptional tailoring and inspired design this bridalwear collection is pretty special…
